Toby Burrows and Elzbieta Majocha: Building infrastructures for Web-based collaboration in humanities research networks

Abstract

This paper will look at the digital services initiatives being implemented by the ARC Research Network for Early European Research (NEER) - particularly at its use of the enterprise wiki software Confluence for collaborative activities. We will report on how NEER participants are using Confluence and on our expectations for its future growth and development. We will also look at the role of Confluence within the Research Network and its contribution to furthering the Network's goals.

About the speakers

Toby Burrows is Digital Services Director for the ARC Network for Early European Research, and has extensive experience in developing Web portals for humanities researchers, including such services as the Western Australian Cultural Heritage Portal and the Guide to Australian Literary Manuscripts. His research fields include medieval studies and library and information science.

Elzbieta Majocha is a Research Assistant for the ARC Network for Early European Research, working on the development and support of digital services. She has a PhD in historical linguistics from the University of Edinburgh and is interested in the application of information technologies to historical research.
