Abstract
This poster provides an overview and outcomes from the Birds of a Feather session that the authors ran at the 2008 eResearch Australasia conference on 'Raising Awareness and Increasing the Uptake of eResearch'. The BoF explored the perceptions and benefits of eResearch, the drivers for different 'domains' (which were defined as researchers, IT support, research support, senior administration, government and industry) and discussed how to best communicate eResearch The questions that the BoF explored were:
- What does eResearch mean for various domains?
- What benefits of eResearch are applicable to each domain and the people supported by that domain?
- What does or will it take to make eResearch a priority for each domain?
A panel representing many of the domains were brought together to present their views on these questions. The audience for the discussion included active participants in all of the domain areas. The ensuing discussion demonstrated that a different approach is needed by eResearch communicators when engaging with various domains. For example the eResearch drivers for researchers are markedly different than for institutional IT and administration.
The summary of the discussion will be presented in detail including the expectations from domains that were expressed. A number of recommendations will be provided to assist others in engaging with specific domains to increase uptake.
